History & Tradition of Das Schloss an der Eisenstrasse
The castle was built at the beginning of the 17th Century. Today it is a top 4-star hotel and provides a wonderful backdrop for private functions, conferences and wellbeing in Waidhofen an der Ybbs.
The neighboring town of Zell has always profited from Waidhofen's flourishing economy. The Zeller Castle was built at the beginning of the 17th century as the administrative headquarters of the Gleiß aristocracy. At that time, the structure was built in an early baroque style.
There are also building remains from a previous castle on the rocky bottom of the Ybbs River which date back to the 14th century.
At the beginning of the 20th century to 1927, the Zeller Castle was an upscale summer health resort – with a dining hall for 200 people and 70 rooms.
For a short time it was in the hands of the Christian Railroad Union until it became a hotel and social meeting place in Waidhofen an der Ybbs once again.
Functionally elegant & fully equipped
After decades of dormancy, the architect Ernst Hoffmann revived the building in 2002 and 2006 through a modernization and expansion. A modern building with guest rooms and fitness area was added to the historic castle.
We rented the Schloss an der Eisenstrasse in Waidhofen an der Ybbs in 2011 und purchased it in 2014. Now it is a modern 4-star castle hotel in Austria with a functional elegant interior. The event venue "Schlosscenter" was renovated in 2015 and now it shines with new splendor for weddings, conferences and events.
Traditions of a Host Family
For generations, our family has been the cordial host for vacationers and conference guests in Austria. In addition to the centrally located city hotel Schloss an der Eisenstrasse, we run the 4-star RelaxResort Kothmühle in Neuhofen an der Ybbs. It is surrounded by 20,000 m² of garden, our RelaxGarden and numerous fruit trees. The Kothmühle has been in our family since 1866 and since 1912 has grown from a guest house to a seminar hotel and then to a RelaxResort.
As a perry baron, we continue the regional Mostviertel tradition of producing high-quality goods. The Landhotel Kothmühle has 8 ha of agricultural land – We grow fruit here and produce our own distillates and fruit juices. We serve these in the Hotel Schloss an der Eisenstrasse.
